Website Optimizer system upgrade coming soon

Wednesday, February 24, 2010 2/24/2010 03:13:00 PM

Within the next two weeks, Google Website Optimizer will undergo a system upgrade. During this upgrade, Website Optimizer will be in maintenance mode. Your experiments will continue to run and collect data, and you’ll be able to view your reports. However, you will not be able to create or modify experiments. This includes launching, pausing, or stopping an experiment.

We’ll notify you of the exact timing of this upgrade both here on the blog and with a message inside your Website Optimizer account. Thanks for bearing with us as we continue to make Website Optimizer better.

If you also use Google Analytics you should know that they’ll be undergoing a similar upgrade, which you can read about on the Google Analytics blog.

Update: 3/2/2010 at 8:55 AM
We've begun the upgrade and Website Optimizer is currently in maintenance mode. A reminder that you'll be unable to create or modify experiments during this time.

Update: 3/3/2010 at 8:10 AM
As of about 2AM PST this morning, Website Optimizer is out of maintenance mode and working normally. Thanks for bearing with us during the maintenance period.

Hi Trevor,
Can you tell us from when it is possible to create new experiments ?

Thanks for letting us know.

Will there be any new features coming after the upgrade?

Yes I'll be updating the blog with more detailed times when we know them. You can also follow me on Twitter @tclaiborne where I'll also post updates.

Regarding new features after the upgrade, not just yet. This upgrade is to the lay the foundation for future updates.

My hopes are as part of the upgrade is that Google with offer Live Chat support for advertisers with W.O. experience whom can help us when we have questions. Normal account reps. have no clue how to field these questions.

Looks like there are some problems with GWO collecting data:

do you have any updates on it?

The issues those folks are having are unrelated to the upgrade that happened last month. I'm looking into all of these (including yours).

Keep the updates coming, things can only get better.

Does GWO actually work? I am trying to run a very simple test and I get no data after many days. All scripts validate, and the site gets plenty of traffic. Any update on what is going on with GWO?

Website Optimizer has been up and running post-upgrade since March 3rd. Something else must be going awry with your experiment.

WO has some bugs..
# 1
The control code that it produces has invalid syntax.. specifically:

....
..script>utmx("url",);
the , after canot be empty.. should it be: 'A/B'? WO is producing the code incorrectly..

# 2.. when validating the code, WO hangs.. will go on for minutes with not validation results..

# 3.. getting lots of: Server Error

The server encountered a temporary error and could not complete your request.
Please try again in 30 seconds.

I am sure that very soon something new by you will seen. I am waiting eagerly.

@Barnard
I just went through and created an experiment and the control script came out fine. You're correct that A/B is the missing piece in the code you posted. This is the first I've heard of this. If it continues, please let us now.

2. Are your pages unreachable for some reason? Validation usually is a couple second process.

3. I suspect that 1 & 2 could be related to this, but can't do more without knowing more about your account.

@Primediart
The upgrade was already completed. No new features at this time, just a overhaul on the infrastructure.
